AL FUNDOK π MASSER EL CHOUF
If you are looking for a place to spend some quality time with family in the mountains along with great food, then this might be the place for you!
Located in the beautiful area of Maasser Al Shouf, Al Fundok was originally a school back in the 70s and has a great story to tell. Now turned into a restaurant/guesthouse which has 17 rooms, Al Fundok offers a great menu made with creativity, passion and truly traditional methods using only their own grown ingredients. Every year, from March to May, their guests can go pick edible plants in the mountains.
We visited Al Fundok on a Sunday, where we enjoyed their buffet which is about 30$ per person including Arak & beer. The vibes were super nice and they had live music in the background. Although it is fun, I got a bit tired from constantly hearing the music while having lunch! But what you will truly is the from farm to table type of service. It has a large garden where all the fruits and vegetables are grown. This approach to food guarantees exceptional flavors and highlights the regional identity.
This place will introduce you to a tradition that started many years ago and still continues.
The location is also very nice as you are only 8 minutes away from the Cedar Reserve of Shouf where you can do some wonderful hiking. In general, Al Shouf is a great area with many places to explore.
The guesthouse offers many activities for children, such as a donkey farm and an infinity pool. Adults also have access to their rooftop to watch & enjoy the sunset.
The rooms cost about $110 per night, the one we stayed in had a balcony so it was $125. Breakfast is included in the price and it is amazing with a wide variety! The rooms were quite comfortable and clean.
Overall, this is a great nature getaway for families. The prices at the restaurant and the guesthouse are extremely tempting & the best part is your pet can join you!
