BEIT DOUMA 📍DOUMA
Beit Douma is an old traditional Lebanese house that has been restored with care and attention. The oldest part of the first-floor dates back to the 18th century. In the beautiful and peaceful village of Douma, you will find this Guest House, which will make you feel like you are staying at a teta’s house or in a museum of Lebanese heritage and traditions.
There are five unique rooms for guests to choose from, as well as a lounge, library and a wonderful garden with different areas. I really felt like a princess walking through the beautiful greenery. We stayed in room number 2, which I think is one of the nicest rooms, it is quite spacious and has a nice view. But keep in mind that you need to be comfortable with someone you are staying with because the shower is quite see-through.
In the house, the kitchen is a bright, open space where breakfast is served and guests are invited to help prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also help yourself at the tea and coffee counter, which always offers a dessert or two. I suggest you try at least one because they have extremely delicious Lebanese dishes.
For dinner, they charge an extra $13 per person and you have to mention that you will take it at least 2 days in advance. We tried tabbouleh which was super fresh, colorful and flavorful. Loubye bzeit, hindbeh, mtabal and fattair sbenigh, all these starters were super good!! We also ordered the grilled chicken with potatoes and basket of freshest vegetables, super juicy and mouthwatering.
Breakfast is included in the room price. It was good and we enjoyed having it on the terrace.
One of the downsides is that there is no electricity from 11am to 5pm and then from 11pm to 5am, so you have to go to bed early.
Also, the place is way too quiet at night, it would be nice to have some background music during dinner. The staff was really friendly, but there is no service after 10pm.
But then again I think it’s the place where you want to completely disconnect and relax too so it’s very peaceful indeed. And another amazing part of the guesthouse is its location - there are many places to hike and gems worth exploring!
Beit Douma is both kid and pet-friendly! I highly recommend going there for a getaway with family or friends. It is quite a romantic spot for couples as well!
