DES CHOUX ET DES IDEES 📍ACHRAFIEH
While I was exploring the beautiful Achrafieh area, I was surprised to stumble upon this amazing hidden artisan pastry shop that opened in Beirut, back in 2016.
As soon as I walked in, I couldn't help but say how cute this place is! it does not have enough space for several tables, since they focus more on takeaways, but you can definitely enjoy their freshly made, mouthwatering, light & delicate desserts right on the spot. Their opening hours are from 8:00 am till 9:30 pm.
Des choux et des idees focuses on making high-end desserts with imported ingredients of the highest quality, as well as delicious croissants, baguettes and cakes for special occasions. One of their signature desserts is definitely the Cruffin with Chocolate, it’s the hybrid of a croissant & a muffin ($2).
Chef Samer, the co-founder of the sweet and decadent “Des choux et des idees” graduated from culinary school in Paris. Therefore, he knows exactly how to turn dessert into art, as desserts require layering and architectural work.
All his pastries are fresh, handmade and prepared daily. Behind the counter, you get to see how each & every piece of dessert is made into perfection.
They offer different types of desserts and coffee. An average of 3$ per person.
& the best part was the tasting! We tried their soft freshly baked croissant; plain butter was for (2$) & the almond was for (2.25$). Their croissants were extremely rich in flavor but unfortunately, as much as I hoped for it, they did not have zaatar nor cheese croissants!
Their cheesecake was lovely, but for me, it was a bit too creamy (4$).
My ultimate favorite item on their menu was the lemon tart, it’s a must try! (3.5$)
One of the negative aspects of the place is that there is no toilet to use. Although they do offer sanitizer, I surely think it would be cleaner to wash your hands, especially after eating the croissants with our hands.
Overall, their desserts are delightful, flavorful and delicious, some might have been a little too sweet for me but that just depends on how sweet your tooth is! Their croissants are perfect for breakfast, their cakes are great that fit for any occasion.
